SHARING ABOUT BINH TAY MARKET - THE SUPER QUALITY WHOLESALE SHOPPING SPOT IN SAIGON
The other day I went to visit Binh Tay Market in District 6 again, you guys often hear about Cho Lon, right? That's this area. I find this place quite interesting so I wrote this article to share with those of you looking for tourist spots in Saigon!

  • Where is Binh Tay Market (New Cho Lon) and how to get there
Binh Tay Market is located at 57A Thap Muoi, Ward 2, District 6 (old). It's not too far from central Saigon. I went by motorbike, parked for 5k on the left side of the main gate, super cheap.

But remember to go on weekdays before 5 PM, because on Sundays they usually close. If I went on Sunday by mistake, then... wasted trip!

  • The market's history is nearly 100 years old
This market was built in 1928, that's almost 100 years old. It was built by a wealthy Chinese man named Quach Dam. So it's also called New Cho Lon.

The architecture is ancient East Asian style, very beautiful, with 12 large and small gates. I heard it's designed like the "Bagua Formation" or something, I'm not sure but it looks extremely impressive. Great for photos!

  • What's inside the market
    Super diverse goods
Oh my god, once inside, they sell everything under the sun:

Candies: Rice crackers, all kinds of candies, perfect to buy as souvenirs. Some say it's paradise for snacks, totally true

Baking ingredients: If you like baking, buy ingredients here super cheap

Clothes, shoes, accessories: Hats, shoes, bags... all styles and types, prices cheaper than outside markets

Household items: Everything for the home is available

Street food: There's pho and spring rolls too, can have lunch here

  • Super lively atmosphere
This market is bustling, packed with buyers and sellers, porters running around. Very lively, at first I thought it was a bit chaotic but got used to it and liked it.

The atmosphere inside is cool and comfortable, not hot as I thought. Can go in the evening too, there are drink stalls, sitting drinking and watching people is fun.

  • How are the prices?
Goods here are mainly wholesale, but many stalls sell retail to tourists. So ask first if they sell retail, otherwise after asking they say must buy in bulk, a bit awkward.

Prices are much cheaper than outside markets. Many people buy here to resell for profit. I think it's great, very reasonable to buy souvenirs for family.

Rich Chinese culture
This area has a lot of Chinese people so Chinese culture is very prominent. The market has that Chinese vibe, quite unique and interesting. I like the feeling of traveling abroad but still in Saigon.

Some tips for those who want to go
Best time: Weekdays before 5 PM. Closed on Sundays

Parking: 5k, left side of main gate

Ask price before buying: Remember to ask if they sell retail and ask price first

Bring big bags: Because you'll definitely buy a lot 😄

Restrooms: Quite clean, even for disabled people

Payment: Bank transfer, cash, some stalls accept NFC, very convenient (but few)

  • Can you go through the whole Binh Tay Market quickly?
Overall, I think Binh Tay Market is an extremely worthwhile place if you want to:

Shop at cheap prices

Experience Chinese culture

Take photos with ancient architecture

Buy souvenirs for loved ones

This market is not just a shopping place but also part of Saigon's historical culture. Go once and you'll remember it. Rated 4.4/5 stars with over 6000 reviews on Google Maps, see?

If you have time, you should stop by and try. I was very satisfied after going, bought lots of cheap and nice stuff. Will come back next time!

Wish you a fun trip! 😊

P/S: Remember to go before 5 PM and not on Sundays! Reminding again because it's important! Hope in the future this place develops a small museum or night markets, local food areas, and neater to attract more tourists, since I see many Hop On Hop Off buses stopping here!
